Erin Cuthbert expressed delight and relief at making her first appearance of the season in Scotland’s impressive 2-0 win over the Czech Republic.
Having won the Women’s World Cup play-off away game, the Scots are well set for the return to Paisley on Tuesday, with Sweden the likely opponents for the team moving on.
Chelsea captain Cuthbert, 28, is still at club level this season after a knee injury and came on as a substitute in Pardubice. Compatriot Claire Emslie finished superbly for the Scots second after captain Caroline Weir’s stunning opener.
“It’s so good,” Cuthbert told BBC Scotland.
“It’s been such a long summer. It’s always great to be playing for my country again – I’ll never take it for granted if I get a serious injury.
“I’m just happy to be back on a football field. The relief, the amount of self-doubt you have, the amount of stress – will I be back at the same level, how will I perform, is my knee OK? All those things run through your mind.
“It was a bad one. I was in Cruces in a brace for the best part of a month. I lost a fair amount of muscle and in the summer I tried to rebuild it all.
“It’s been a really, really hard journey.”
