The branch came down outside the shopping center today (October 23) leaving a large amount of debris over part of the paved area.
The pictures show a large part of the tree, which is located near the entrance to Crompton Place, surrounded by leaves and smaller branches.
The incident comes as Storm Austen, the first named storm of the 2026/27 season, is bringing strong winds and heavy rain to parts of the UK.
The Met Office said Storm Austen will bring a spell of disruptive weather from Thursday night into Friday, with strong winds and heavy rain affecting parts of the country.
The fallen branch is not the only storm-related disturbance in the Bolton area.
The Rivington Festival of Light has been canceled due to forecast high winds associated with Storm Austen, which will take place on Friday evening.
Rivington Heritage Trust said it canceled the event to protect visitors, volunteers and staff. Events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday depend on the latest conditions.
Weather warnings have been issued across parts of the UK, with forecasters warning of travel disruption and the possibility of damage from strong winds.
Bolton also faces further unsettled weather over the weekend, with another named storm, Storm Boelo forecast for strong winds in northern parts of the UK.
The Bolton News reported earlier this week that the Met Office warned of travel disruption, power cuts and injuries from debris as Storm Austen approached.
The storm has already caused major disruption elsewhere, with fallen trees, power cuts and road and rail problems reported on Friday.
A yellow wind warning has been issued from 6pm on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday, with gusts of 55-65mph expected widely and up to 70-80mph on exposed coasts and high ground.
