Ontario-based air ambulance company called US Coast Guard when plane with 6 on board failed to land

Air Ambulance went missing early Saturday

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for an Ontario-based air ambulance jet that went missing with six people on board while flying from Bermuda to Boston on Saturday.

The Gulfstream G100 jet with tail number C-GRJP is registered to Latitude Air Ambulance, a Hamilton-based air ambulance provider, according to tracking website Flightradar24.

The company lost contact with the jet around 1:30 a.m. today, said Clarence Togeretz, director of flight operations at Latitude. The US Coast Guard Northeast Division said The Federal Aviation Administration also reported losing contact with the jet in the early hours of Saturday.

There were two pilots and two medical personnel – all of whom are Canadian – on board. A patient and her family member were also on board. They are not Canadian and were picked up in Bermuda, Togeretz told the CBC.

Togeretz said they remain optimistic that everyone will be found safe.

Air and surface crews are searching for the plane off the coast of Nantucket, Mass., the U.S. Coast Guard’s Northeast District said in a social media post.

The jet’s last trip was from Hamilton to the North Atlantic island of Bermuda on Friday evening, according to flight history on Flightradar24. Before the Friday and Saturday flights, the jet had flown to Canada in the past week.

CBC News has contacted federal and provincial authorities for more information about the plane.
