An update has emerged following a helicopter crash in Florida that claimed one life and injured two others.

The tragedy came just days after a Learjet 60, en route from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas, crashed on a road near Greenacres in Palm Beach County, Florida, about 75 miles north of Bill Baggs State Park. The private jet nosedive before going down in a fireball, killing all nine people on board.

On Wednesday, shortly before 11:30 a.m. local time (4:30 p.m. GMT), the state witnessed another fatal incident, this time involving a helicopter. The plane went down near Key Biscayne, in Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that emergency services were called at 11:26 a.m. following reports of a helicopter crash near Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. The US Coast Guard has verified that one fatality has occurred and that two individuals are receiving “a high level of care”.

In a statement, the Southeast Coast Guard said: “Three people were on the plane. One person is reported dead and two people were transported by EMS to a higher level of care.”

Miami Fire Rescue confirmed that the two hospital patients were male. Their age and relationship remain unclear. Officials have yet to release additional information about the deceased.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this sudden and devastating event,” said Petty Officer Adrian Guttierez, Search and Rescue Operations Unit, Sector Miami. Flight tracking data shows the helicopter flew over Biscayne Bay for about five minutes when it abruptly lost altitude at about 11:17 a.m.

The US Coast Guard provided an update last night. A spokesperson confirmed: “A safety zone remains in place and mariners are asked to use caution in the area. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.”
