Where to find the best cheap ski holidays for 2026/2027

Ski holidays can be expensive but choosing a cheaper resort and being flexible with your dates can make a big difference to the overall cost. From budget-friendly resorts in Bulgaria and Romania to lesser-known options in Italy and Norway, there are plenty of places where you can enjoy good skiing without paying Alpine prices.

I’ve rounded up some of the best cheap ski holiday deals for 2026/2027, as well as affordable resorts worth considering if you’re planning a winter break on a budget.

Save up to £200 this ski season with Crystal

If you prefer the simplicity of a package holiday, Crystal has accommodation, flights and transfers covered in one booking. Right now you can save £200 on December 2026 departures, £150 on January and February 2027 journeys, or £100 on March and April holidays with the code below.

Up to 15 percent off luxury Club Med ski vacations

Club Med is another all-in-one ski package provider that keeps the booking process simple and stress-free. You can save up to 15 percent on select luxury ski packages in France, Italy and further afield, including resorts in Canada and Japan. It’s a way to get the convenience of a ski package while paying less than the usual price.

Exclusive 6 percent of accommodation with Expedia

Booking your flights and accommodation separately can sometimes be cheaper, especially if you are willing to stay in a self-catering apartment or chalet. The Independent Readers can also save an exclusive 6 percent on eligible accommodations with Expedia.

£20 off flights and hotels with Lastminute.com

If you prefer to arrange your own ski trip, Lastminute.com is another option for booking flights and accommodation together. Its app is currently offering £20 off eligible flight and hotel bookings with the code below.

Package vacations aren’t just for summer getaways. Booking your flights, accommodation and transfers together can make a ski trip easier to organise, and sometimes better value than arranging everything separately.

Crystal, for example, includes flights, accommodation and transfers in its packages, with extras such as lift passes, equipment hire and ski school available to add on. It also means you have everything covered under one booking, rather than coordinating several different suppliers.

It’s worth comparing the full cost of a package with booking each item separately, especially if luggage, airport transfers, ski equipment and lift passes are involved. Crystal’s snow promise is another benefit worth considering, as eligible bookings may be moved if snow conditions are insufficient.

Geilo, Norway

(Such good skiing)

Norway may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of a cheap ski holiday, but Geilo can be an affordable alternative to the better known French and Swiss resorts. Its accommodation and skiing options cater well for families, with plenty of self-catering apartments and a compact resort that’s easy to get around without a car. The skiing is spread out on both sides, with around 40 km of pistes, but there are also extensive cross-country trails and plenty of non-skiing activities.

Getting to Geilo is also quite easy. The resort sits on the railway line between Oslo and Bergen, with trains taking approximately 3.5 hours from Oslo. In winter there is also a direct airport shuttle from Oslo Airport, making it possible to fly from the UK and continue using public transport, rather than paying for an expensive private transfer.

Borovets, Bulgaria

Borovets is one of the most famous budget-friendly European resorts. Bulgaria is generally cheaper than most major alpine destinations for accommodation, lift passes, ski hire, food and drink, but Borovets still offers around 58km of pistes, tree trunks and a lively après-ski scene. It tends to be particularly popular with beginners and families, thanks to its gentle slopes and a good selection of ski schools.

It is also one of the easier Bulgarian resorts to reach from the UK. Fly to Sofia and the resort is about 68-75 km away, with a car transfer that takes about an hour and 15 minutes if conditions are good.

Bardonecchia, Italy

If you want an Italian ski holiday without the price tag of some of the country’s more famous resorts, Bardonecchia is the place to go. It’s generally cheaper than big-name Dolomites destinations and still offers 100km of pistes, with a mix of blue, red and black pistes. The resort is best known for hosting snowboarding events during the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.

From the UK you can easily fly to Turin and take a train direct from Turin Porta Nuova to Bardonecchia, taking around 90 minutes – much cheaper than a private ski transfer.

Poiana Brasov, Romania

Poiana Brasov, Romania, is a lesser-known choice for a cheap ski holiday, with lift passes, lessons, accommodation and meals out costing much less than in the Alps. The resort has more than 24 km of pistes, modern lifts and runs that cater for all abilities. Its location, just outside the medieval city of Brasov, also offers something else to explore when you’re not skiing.

Getting there just got easier for UK travellers. Brasov-Ghimbav airport is about 25-30 minutes from Poiana Brasov and has a London Luton connection, but there are also many options via Bucharest if these flights work out cheaper for you. From Brasov itself, the resort is only 12 km away and can be reached by local bus, saving on private transfer costs.
