DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) thought she was coming to town to get the revenge she’s been hoping for her adult life, but her plans have gone terribly wrong in Emmerdale.
We learned that Thea is Kim Tate’s (Claire King) long-lost daughter, put up for adoption as a baby and thrust into a life that has left her bitter and vindictive towards mother, dearest Kim. She is now particularly miffed that Kim is allowing history to repeat itself with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) planning to give his own baby up for adoption.
Thea is prepared with some pretty robust plans to bring Kim down, including snooping through Home Farm to find incriminating evidence, recruiting Parl Serena to infiltrate the Tate household, and finally framing Kim for Jimmy’s (Nick Miles) death with some neat fake evidence. But when that didn’t work, she tried to cook up a plan B. All the while their hatred was bubbling over.
Recently, she has softened after seeing Kim raw and vulnerable at Will’s grave. But all it took was a partially overheard conversation about Joe Tate giving up his baby and Thea’s loathing to return.
She is so consumed by hate, she manages to find out – from Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), and it could threaten her entire career.
Thea investigated Todd’s death and was instrumental in putting Charity behind bars. Her friend Serena – who the village doesn’t know is her friend – was involved in covering up the death, and so could be in a world of trouble if anyone finds out she’s involved in the crime.
Bad then for Sarah to see Serena and Thea having a secret urgent meeting. Sarah immediately puts two and two together and realizes that these two are on to things together. Now she has what she needs to get Charity out of jail.
Sarah goes hard on the two women, hitting them with a blackmail plot to try and get Charity released. Sarah is especially invested in seeing Charity released because she is currently in prison for a crime Sarah committed and is looking at a long shot after Sarah mistakenly changed her statement.
Thea tries to talk Sarah out of her blackmail, but Sarah is nothing if not strong, indignant and stubborn. Serena, meanwhile, visits Charity to chat about Sarah and what’s going on at home – another vain hope of trying to get herself off the hook.
