Its Sunday roast menu offers a variety of meats from different counties such as fire-roasted rump of Herefordshire beef, roast Suffolk Pork loin with crackling, slow roasted shoulder of Essex lamb, and roasted Norfolk chicken breast. It also offers a roasted salmon option as well as a sweet potato, cranberry and chestnut bread.

Each roast is served with a selection of trimmings including roasted potatoes, roasted carrots, parsnips, swede butter, cauliflower cheese, sage and onion stuffing, green beans and broccoli. The roast beef also comes with Yorkshire puddings and gravy, the roasted salmon is served with a white cream chive sauce and the sweet potato, cranberry and chestnut bread is served with Yorkshire puddings and vegetarian gravy.

A loaf costs between £24.50 and £32.50, that’s for the ‘all the meats’ roast. Tom Ward, 43, has owned the pub since November 2025. He also works for the NHS Blood and Transport and East of England Ambulance Service next to the property of the pub.

Explaining what makes the pub’s bread so special, Mr Ward said: “We decided we wanted to do something different so we smoke our meat, all our meat is smoked so it’s not traditional, put in the oven.

“We smoke our meat over charcoal, grill it and we make them plates so they’re nice big juicy plates that fill you up. The idea is you have a big plate and then you take some home and then they feed you on Monday too.”

He said bookings for the pub’s Sunday brunch were “nuts”, adding that when the food service started in January 2026, “people will have to book six to eight weeks in advance”.

The 43-year-old added: “It’s good to know it’s number one. The reason I love Fordham is because it’s a growing village and it’s grown since the pub burned down. [in August 2023]. The village has grown tenfold but the residents are excellent.

“We put the burden back into the community, into Fordham. I think in our first year we probably gave [around] £6,000 returned to the community. It sponsors local children’s soccer teams. We try to generate prizes or do events to generate things to give back, so that’s what the pub is.

He described the four chefs working there as “brilliant” and that the team wanted to do “something amazing”.

The Crown in Fordham was also recently crowned Admiral Taverns Pub of the Year 2026 at the Great British Pub Awards. It has built a strong reputation online with an average of 4.6 stars out of five on Google among more than 100 reviews.

One person recently wrote: “Absolutely delicious Sunday roast. We had the fire roasted rump beef which was beautifully cooked. Had just enough smokiness to notice but not overpowering. The plate of food we had was massive.”

Another person said: “From the first initial pavement experience to leaving the pub. Absolutely first class. From the staff to the decor to the most delicious Sunday bread. Phenomenal this place. The flavors of the roast were spot on. No overpowering flavors. The only way to describe a home from home Sunday roast meal.”
