Seven Canadian hotels have earned new bragging rights now that the Michelin Keys for 2026 have been revealed.
The prestigious guide awards keys to luxury hotels around the world, just as it awards stars to revered restaurants. One key describes a hotel as “a very special stay” that stands out among others at its price point. Two keys to classify “an exceptional stay” that offers a unique and unforgettable experience full of charm and personal touches. Where three keys indicate “an exceptional stay” that is remarkable in every way, from service and style to elegance (think destination of a lifetime).

In September, a total of 42 Canadian hotels made the list, with new additions from Quebec and Ontario with one or two keys.
Canada’s only three-key properties – of which there are two – have maintained their ratings this year. The remote and remarkable Fogo Island Inn off the coast of Newfoundland is a luxury hotel on a small, sparsely populated island in Joe Batt’s Arm. Guests visiting this three-key hotel can find solitude in sophistication while experiencing the Atlantic Ocean up close.

On the other side of the country is the three-key Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge on the lush and rugged coast of Vancouver Island. Accessible only by boat or air, the immersive experience of this remote luxury outpost features 25 canvas tents on wooden platforms. The cookhouse offers meals prepared over an open fire. Guests are pampered in spa tents with hot-stone massages, facials, wood-fired saunas and hot tubs. However, the real star is the surrounding views in the UNESCO-designated Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve.

Montreal had three properties with the Michelin list. Hotel William Gray and the Ritz-Carlton Montreal are now two of four one-key hotels in the city. The William Gray consists of two heritage buildings from the 18th century. Guests need not leave the hotel to experience Michelin-recommended dining with Maison Boulud, serving elevated French fare right on site.
down the road Four Seasons Montreal secured a two-key rating thanks to a style makeover. Standing high above the Golden Square Mile in the modern center of Montreal, Four Seasons Montreal has everything to fulfill a first-class luxury stay, including the indulgent Guerlain Spa.

Kingston, Ont. made a surprise appearance on this year’s list with not one, but two newly recognized establishments. The Belvedere Hotel, a character-rich 19th century former residence just steps from the waterfront, and the Smith Hotel, inside a historic stone church with spa services and 10 two-level loft suites, both deserve one-key status in this year’s guide.

Toronto has added a sixth One-Key hotel to its roster with the Ritz-Carlton. The luxury brand brings together modern amenities and luxurious styling such as marble floors with in-mirror HD TVs.
