DOZENS of Russian soldiers have surrendered after drinking their own pee to survive – as their senior commanders left them for dead.
Footage shows 94 troops – many of them looking weak and malnourished – in single file in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine.
The most senior officer among the prisoners of war (PoW), Alexander Manankov, steps Advance to speak on their behalf, in a video released by the Third Army Corps of Ukraine.
“We surrendered because we did not want to die in vain,” he said.
“Our officers actually ran away… We had no water at our positions. We had to drink water from puddles, we had to drink our own urine.
“We have no food. We had to eat tree bark and grass. We don’t have the medicine to help the wounded soldiers.

“Our command simply forgot about us. We were expendable. That’s why the decision was made to surrender.”
Manankov went on to call on other Russian soldiers used by the Kremlin as “meat attack troops” not to be afraid to surrender.
“The propaganda that is being spread among us is a pure lie,” he added. “Here you are guaranteed food, water, normal nutrition and living conditions.”
With tears in his eyes, a soldier said that one of his comrades had died of dehydration.
“We were hungry and sat a month and a half ago,” he added. “I ate here properly for the first time, in captivity.
Smoking a cigarette with shaking hands, another said their commanders ordered them to “take up a circular defense” and turned off their radio.
He added that three people died due to the lack of medicines. Their bodies were never recovered.
Another Russian service member credited Ukrainian troops with a piece of shrapnel from his skull and a second from his lower back.
General Andrii Biletskyi, commander of the Third Army Corps, said: “The Russians surrendered in captivity of entire sub-units, along with officers, pilots and artillerymen.”
“The enemy’s losses – 2,000 in manpower, over 250 Russians captured as PoWs,” he revealed.
Biletskyi said that the success was the third “season” of Vivaldi, an operation to completely reclaim the Donetsk region.
Total Russian losses during the three phases were about 5,000 killed and wounded on this section of the front alone.
In the corps, a special unit was set up with the task of bluffing some combat operations that did not correspond to what was happening on the ground.
The final phase recaptured 31 square miles of territory, bringing the total recovered during Vivaldi to 109 square miles, according to the Third Army Corps.
Among them are Nove, Ridkodub, and Katerynivka as well as Karpivka and Novomikhailivka.
