A crash on the M90 has closed part of the Queensferry Crossing, causing huge delays and backlash.

The incident happened around 8pm on Thursday, October 29, when police were alerted to a collision on the popular bridge, apparently involving three vehicles.

Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene. The M90 remains closed northbound two hours later and both lanes are closed.

Police are currently directing traffic across the Forth Road Bridge and drivers have been warned to expect long delays. It is not clear how many people were involved in the accident, and whether anyone was injured or hospitalized.

Photos taken at the scene, and shared with the Record, show complete gridlock at the Queensferry Crossing. Motorists say the road northbound is still “completely blocked” amid a large emergency services presence.

Drivers say at least six blue-lit emergency vehicles were rushed to the scene. Others say the track is at a “stand still” and a “mess” and urged those behind the wheel to steer clear of the area due to heavy traffic.

One driver said: “Police are now directing traffic onto the old bridge and cars sliding off the bridge. Avoid avoiding.”

Another wrote: “QFC closed. Large number of emergency services on scene!”

A third described: “There was a big incident in the north. A complete standstill, six fire engines and many ambulances there… avoid if possible”.

A fourth shared: “At least six emergency vehicles went to the bridge in the space of 10 minutes”, while another reported: “Bridge backed up and standing still”.

Another driver chipped in and wrote: “Cars north on Queensferry Crossing not moving, lots of blue lights.”

A Traffic Scotland spokesperson said: “The M90 remains closed northbound due to a road traffic collision blocking both lanes. Police are currently diverting traffic across the Forth Road Bridge.”

Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
