Lucy Pittaway is recruiting staff for newly opened Newcastle gallery

The award-winning artist is looking to grow the team at her Blackett Street gallery after opening its doors for the festive season on October 31.

Sales assistants are being recruited for the Newcastle site, with successful applicants earning £12.71 an hour plus commission on art sales.

Announcing the recruitment drive, the business said: “Newcastle, we are recruiting.

“As we reopen, we are looking to grow our Newcastle team and have opportunities for part-time and full-time positions.

“We are looking for enthusiastic, customer focused individuals with previous sales experience.

“If you have a passion for people, enjoy working in a creative environment and would love to be part of the Lucy Pittaway brand, we would love to hear from you.”

The Sales Assistant role will largely work with clients in the gallery, including selling artwork and merchandise and providing customer service.

Successful applicants will also be responsible for processing payments, handling telephone and email sales inquiries and organizing and handling artwork and stock.

Staff may also be asked to support local events and exhibitions.

Previous retail or sales experience is listed as essential, while the business is looking for candidates with strong communication and customer service skills.

Applicants should also be confident handling payments and using a cat, have good attention to detail and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Both full-time and part-time roles are available, with employees working over a seven-day rota, including weekdays and weekends.

As well as the £12.71 hourly rate and commission on artwork sales, staff get a discount and the opportunity to work in what the business describes as a “creative, inspiring gallery environment”.

The recruitment drive comes after the Blackett Street gallery reopened on Saturday, October 31, after closing earlier this year.

The business announced last month that the Newcastle gallery would return for the festive season and remain open until January.

The Newcastle Gallery is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays throughout the bank holidays.

His return follows a period of change for the business, which also saw the closure of galleries in Bowness, Windermere and Harrogate earlier in the year.

Pittaway previously described the decision to close these galleries as “incredibly hard”, with rising operating costs among the reasons given by the business.

Their galleries in Richmond, Yarm, York and Keswick, alongside an outlet in Brompton on Swale, remained open.

Pittaway began her art career more than 13 years ago when her twins started school, with a hobby in a small metal shed developing into a successful business.

She has become known for her distinctive artwork featuring sheep, landscape scenes and family life and has developed a following across the North East, Yorkshire and beyond.

Those interested in joining the Newcastle team are asked to send a CV and covering letter to hr@lucypittaway.co.uk.
