Landslide closes Skye Road prompting 40-mile diversion

The road, which is over 33 miles long, circles the Trotternish Peninsula at the northern end of Skye.

In an update shared on social media on Saturday morning, the council confirmed that the road will remain closed over the weekend.

The update read: “Following this morning’s inspection, the A855 at Idrigill Bend will remain closed over the weekend.

“Our road team are working to remove the slippery material from the road while an assessment takes place for the necessary repair work.”

A 40.2 mile diversion is in place for motorists via the Quiraing Road (C1225) – Staffin Road (A855) and A87 Trunk Road.
