A section of Cambridgeshire’s guided bus route will be temporarily closed for “urgent repair work”. The southern section of the guided bus route between Clay Farm and Trumpington Park & Ride will be closed for the work.

The section will be closed from 11pm on Thursday October 8 until Monday afternoon October 12. Cambridgeshire County Council said the closure will “allow urgent repair work to be carried out”.

It said repairs are needed on a section of the guideway between Hauxton Road bridge and Shelford Road bridge where engineers have identified a defect affecting a structural beam. A temporary 10mph speed restriction was put in place as an interim safety measure, but the condition has continued to deteriorate and specialist engineering advice is that repairs cannot be delayed any longer.

The closure affects both the guided busway and the adjacent maintenance track between Clay Farm and Trumpington Park & Ride. Users of the maintenance track are advised to make alternative arrangements during the closure period.

The busway will remain open between the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Cambridge Central station throughout the works, as will the adjacent maintenance track.

Bus services will continue to operate, although some journeys will be affected. Whippet services are operating as normal and are not directly affected by the closure. Stagecoach services will continue to run via a road diversion around the closed part of the busway.

A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesperson said: “We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank residents, passengers and maintenance route users for their patience while these essential repairs are completed. Updates will be provided through the communication channels of the Council and of bus operators as work progresses.
