Death of Jesus de Miguel: Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono experienced the “hardest days of my life”

FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono says he is experiencing “the most difficult days of my life” following the death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel.

Tenerife player De Miguel, 30, died after suffering a serious injury in a collision with Owono during a Spanish second division match on Monday.

The world of football has paid tribute to De Miguel, a father of one who came to Tenerife in the summer of 2025, with a minute of silence at every game in the European competition held this week.

Owono’s club issued a statement on behalf of the goalkeeper on Wednesday, explaining that the 25-year-old “wishes to share a few words personally”.

“These are the most difficult days of my life,” Owono said in the statement.

“I am struggling to find the words, and it is very difficult for me to come to terms with what has happened.

“I feel tremendous pain over the loss of Jesus. I think of him, his family, and everyone who loved him.

“I know there are many issues to consider, and I will face what comes with the greatest respect. But right now, honestly, I can’t think about anything else but Jesus and the pain we all experience.

“Rest in peace, Jesus.”

Earlier on Wednesday, FC Andorra teammate Lautaro Spatz defended Owono, saying he would “never intentionally hurt anyone” and was “deeply affected” by De Miguel’s death.

Writing on social media, centre-back Spatz said Owono was devastated.

Spatz paid tribute to De Miguel, then said of Owono: “Those of us who know him know the kind of person he is, how much he is suffering at the moment and that he has never knowingly hurt anyone.

“Unfortunate incidents can happen in football, but no one could have imagined that one of them would end with such tragic consequences.”

The players of FC Andorra held a minute’s silence before a voluntary training session on Wednesday. Owono was not at the meeting.
