James Blunt’s reaction to a Romesh Ranganathan joke left Celebrity Traitors fans feeling a wave of sympathy for the ex-Army Captain as the series came to an end on BBC One this year.
James Blunt’s response to a Romesh Ranganathan joke sparked outrage among fans as this year’s series of Celebrity Traitors came to an end on Friday.
After a disappointing series of sneaky villains and lackluster gameplay, Celebrity Traitors 2026 finally delivered some real thrills in a chaotic final showdown.
Faithful emerged victorious as actor Sebastian Croft and comedian Romesh Ranganathan prevailed after eliminating James Blunt, King Kenny and Leigh Anne Pinnock in the final.
The pair secured £41,500 each for their chosen charities – Choose Love for Croft and the Refugee Council for Ranganathan.
But viewers who watched the Uncloaked finale on BBC One may have overlooked a poignant moment from James Blunt that sparked a wave of sympathy for the ex Army Captain among some fans.
During the programme, winner Romesh Ranganathan joked that the audience didn’t witness host Claudia Winkleman telling him and Sebastian “Bash” Croft: “Thank God James Blunt is gone!” after they voted him out of the endgame.
The remark sparked laughter in the BBC studio, although James was less than amused by the jibe when the camera focused on him.
Viewers have since noticed the moment a stony-faced James quietly asked Claudia, “Did you really say that?” – Words subtly captured by the show’s microphones.
“He’s had too many people who are openly mean to him not to worry, it might be true. I feel sorry for him,” said one fan who caught it.
“I heard it too, poor guy,” said another. “Showed he’s a nice guy because of it. Just normal like anyone with overthinking and insecurities.
“He’s so sensitive, bless him,” added another.
Last night James said he was “happy” for the eventual winners despite his fellow star Faithful pipping him at the final hurdle.
