There are many displays to choose from across the county
It’s that time of year when people flock to fireworks across the country for Bonfire Night. As the saying goes, remember the fifth of November. This is the famous day that marks the failure of Guy Fawkes to attempt to bomb Parliament in 1605.
In the centuries that have passed since then, fireworks light up the sky every year on November 5. If you want to go out to enjoy some of the fireworks, here are five places in Cambridgeshire you can go to see them.
Midsummer Common, Cambridge
Cambridge’s longest-running fireworks night returns to Midsummer Common on November 5 from 6pm. The free-ticket event promises an “unforgettable evening of entertainment,” according to Cam City Events.
The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. In addition to the fireworks, there will be food vendors, a live DJ and a “breathtaking walkabout”.
Cherry Hill Park, Broad St, Ely
Ely’s Community Fireworks will take place on Saturday, November 7, at Cherry Hill Park on Broad Street. Gates open at 5pm and the display starts at 7pm.
The event brings families together for a fun-filled evening that also raises money for good causes.
Tickets cost £10 for adults, £5 for a child and £20 for a family ticket.
Kimbolton Castle
Kimbolton Castle is hosting its 61st year of fireworks in the castle grounds. The fireworks are brought to visitors by Titanium Fireworks, providers of London’s New Years Eve fireworks.
In addition to the fireworks, there will be live music before and after the exhibition. Doors open at 5.45pm and the display takes place at 8pm.
Tickets cost £15.95 for adults and £6.95 for children under 18.
Peterborough Embankment
Peterborough’s embankment will be spectacularly transformed into a giant firework display on November 7. Since the arena in Peterborough closed in 2024, there has been no major fireworks display in Peterborough.
However, this year that changes as visitors are invited to the Embankment to enjoy the display. The screen should last about 18 minutes and is estimated to attract between 5,000 and 8,000 people.
In addition to fireworks, there will also be entertainment for the public, with the exhibition at 8:30 p.m. The event starts at 5:00 p.m. and should end by 10:00 p.m.
Great Cambourne Football Grounds, CB23 6FY
The skies of Cambourne will be lit up with fireworks on November 6 from 6.30pm. The free event will take place at the football grounds in Greater Cambourne.
There will be funfair rides for the whole family to enjoy, as well as food trucks and drinks to keep people entertained throughout the night.
