The scrapyard can be found along the A1079 on the way out of York, but it’s worth a stop.
The fish and chip shop is loved by locals and has won several awards since opening in 2016.
How is the scrap bin?
After Schrott Box was named the best fish & chip takeaway at the National Fish & Chip Awards earlier this year, the venue was visited by TikTok content creators, York Only Pans.
The couple tested the shop and said: “We ordered two regular fish and chips with curry sauce, tartar sauce and mushy peas, and at under £12 a portion it’s incredible value.
“The ratio of chips to fish was also unreal.
“The fish was flaky with a light crispy batter and the chips were perfectly cooked.”

The junkyard has a small menu with several fish options, including haddock, fish bites, and classic cod, all served with chips.
There are some alternative options as well as scampi and Yorkshire fishcakes.
For those who don’t like fish, you can instead choose chicken nuggets, a sausage or Spam to enjoy with a portion of chips.
You can add on some sides like mushy peas, curry sauce and the store’s homemade tartare sauce.
