Nassef Sawiris has confirmed that Aston Villa will initiate legal action against Jamie Carragher for his “unacceptable insults” about the club.
A statement was released on the club’s social media pages on Friday evening, with Sawiris signing off on the post.
“Aston Villa will initiate legal action against Jamie Carragher for his unacceptable insults about the club and its fans,” it read. “Aston Villa will not allow anyone to stop our ascension in English and European football. Nassef Sawiris, Chairman.”
Carragher came under fire from Villa fans after his comments related to Unai Emery and Manchester United.
Earlier this week, the Liverpool legend said on Stick to Football: “I think Unai Emery is incredible with what he does year after year. The amount of changes, players need time to settle and he does it year after year.
“But the reason I come back to Villa fans is that I don’t believe that a manager who is so successful in the Europa League will take a player, if you’ve won the Europa League three or four times, then you want to go to the Champions League.
“Aston Villa will never be Manchester United. I just think he didn’t do well at PSG or Arsenal, and maybe that’s because of egos in the dressing room and things like that. But surely he would like this opportunity to manage a giant again. There is a chain in football, whether you like it or not.
“So Real Madrid will take the best player from Manchester United, they did it with (Cristiano) Ronaldo. And they will be teams under Aston Villa, and they will take their players or managers, so shut the **** up Aston Villa fans. Aston Villa will never be Manchester United.
