The third annual Buxted Bonfire Night took place on Saturday, September 26, attracted record attendance and welcomed 23 bonfire companies from across Sussex.
A spectacular torchlight procession filled the streets with the sound of drums and shouts, followed by a moving commemoration, the lighting of the fire and a fireworks display choreographed to music.
Debbie Elliott, chairman of the Buxted Bonfire Society, said: “We are delighted that the Buxted Bonfire has returned as an annual tradition.
“It takes months and months of hard work from our small group of volunteers, but the response from the community makes it all worth it.
“We are so grateful to everyone who supported us tonight.”
The event, which is free to attend, is funded entirely through community donations and fundraisers.
Each year the society needs to raise more than £10,000 to cover the costs of staging the event.
This year’s celebration also supports two local charities: St Wilfrid’s Hospice and Uckfield Foodbank.
“If you came along on Saturday, enjoyed the procession, stood around the bonfire, watched the fireworks with your family and friends, or simply enjoyed seeing Buxted come together as a community, please consider making a donation.
“Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a real difference.”
Those wishing to support the event can donate through the society’s GoFundMe page at gofund.me/89b074763.
Plans are already underway for next year’s event, which will take place on Saturday 25 September 2027.
The occasion will be particularly special as it is 10 years since the Buxted Bonfire Society reformed in 2017.
Organizers say they are already working to make the anniversary event even more memorable for the community and visitors.
Since its return, Buxted Bonfire Night has quickly become a highlight of the village calendar, growing in size and popularity every year.
The Society hopes to continue to build on this momentum with the support of the community and its dedicated volunteers.
