The tree came down on Blackshaw Road, just off Deane Road and Wigan Road, today (October 25).
A local resident said the tree fell sometime between 9am and noon.
Photos taken at the scene show the tree lying across the road, with branches and debris covering the highway.
Part of the fallen tree can also be seen next to a parked car, although it is currently unknown if the vehicle was damaged.
Where the tree fell, a boundary wall collapsed under its weight.
