Georgia’s youngest elected mayor was ousted after just 10 months in office after being accused of misusing city funds and exchanging sexually suggestive messages and images with an 18-year-old high school student.
Jaden Williams, who recently turned 23, was impeached by the Stockbridge City Council in south Atlanta after taking office in January.
“The City of Stockbridge confirms that the City Council has taken formal action regarding the Mayor’s Office,” the city said in a statement Sunday. “The mayor has been removed from office.”
Williams is accused of using the city’s purchasing card for more than $4,000 for personal expenses such as restaurant meals, clothing, haircuts and movie nights. According to to Fox 5 Atlanta.
He reportedly spent $2,600 on gas and was using the city vehicle for personal purposes.
The expenditure was reported after city officials noticed unusual transactions involving public funds and immediately alerted management and the city’s legal team.
Williams said he never intended to use city funds and later repaid the money, Fox 5 reported.
He also claimed the city-issued card was similar to his personal card and said he later replaced the card to avoid future confusion, the newspaper reported.
Separately, Williams is accused of exchanging sexually suggestive messages and explicit images with an 18-year-old high school boy.
The police report noted that Williams did not commit any criminal offenses because he was considered an adult under Georgia law.
But police referred the matter for administrative review, citing potential policy and ethical concerns about the interactions between elected officials and students in what investigators described as a city-affiliated mentoring program, Fox 5 reported.
Williams previously said in a statement that he had met with the person before taking office and that the student had never participated in the city’s Mayor for a Day program, which Williams described as not a mentorship program.
“This person was 18 years old at the time of our communication, which means we were both adults. I met this person on November 30, 2025, and our online communications took place before I took office in January 2026,” he said.
Williams campaigned while attending Clark Atlanta University and became the youngest mayor in Georgia history.
He was subsequently stripped of certain official privileges on July 17 as the investigation progressed, but no criminal charges were filed in connection with his alleged actions.
