As Grimsby’s GY28 campaign gathers pace, Lloyd Griffith and Thomas Turgoose have pledged their support as ambassadors to help the town become the UK’s first City of Culture in 2028.

And clips that you can see on GY28 | NELC, the homegrown stars talk about ‘their city’ and how they want to do everything they can to support the bid and spread the word far and wide. The first two ambassadors will join scores more between now and November as the team gathers support and prepares to submit the final GY28 bid to the government.

Actor Thomas said: “I’m just so proud of the wonderful things we’ve got going on in this town, not just now but in the past and all the exciting things to come. Here’s to celebrating what a brilliant town Grimsby really is.”

Comedian, actor and singer Lloyd added: “Grimsby has such a rich cultural heritage, and being Britain’s City of Culture is all about securing these opportunities so that the next generation can add to that cultural heritage in years to come. Who knows, we might introduce the next Rod Temperton, Patricia Hodge, or even Thomas Turgoose!”

Schools, businesses, charities and residents use the GY brand, adopting the very special ‘Grimsby’ alphabet letters and waving posters. Docks Beers may have its own GY28 pint, the youngsters reading ‘Ambition’ – the special OnSide Horizon poem, and there will be songs too, so watch this space.

Meanwhile, the team of creatives putting together the bid will visit Grimsby Town’s Saturday home game to talk to supporters, there will be other sessions set up and there will be a bumper ‘Grimsby: A Place We Call Home’ launch event at Grimsby Minster on Friday 9 October. Everyone is welcome and there is a lot going on.

For more on all of that, check out the events section on GY28 | NELC There is also the GY28 survey, which the organizers want as many people as possible to fill out – the more, the better the offer is compiled.
