Inside the documentary that exposed accusations against Brand
WARNING: This post contains details of alleged rape and sexual assault
Channel 4 Shipments Documentary film Russell Brand: In Plain Sight aired in September 2023 after a joint investigation by Dispatches, The Times and The Sunday Times about the treatment of women by the comedian.
Five women shared their experiences as part of the investigation, with four remaining anonymous and stakeholders used to protect identities and parts of the program. The women made allegations including rape, sexual assault and emotionally abusive behavior.
One woman claimed: “He grabs my underwear, pulls it to the side. I tell him to get off me and he won’t go down. Like holding me against the wall, pushing himself into me.”
Another said: “He grabbed me and brought me to the bed. I was fully clothed and he was sticky at this point and he pushed me and he just aggressively tried to fuck me.
A third claimed: “He forced his penis down my throat and I couldn’t breathe, he just choked me. I was crying and he said, ‘Oh, I just wanted to see your mascara run anyway’.”
One of the women, speaking publicly about her allegations for the first time, said: “I have never, ever spoken about it publicly. Russell seems untouchable.”
