This development was approved despite concerns from councilors about congestion in the area around the Gallagher Retail Park
A new storage tank just north of Gallagher Retail Park in Scunthorpe has been approved despite concerns from councilors about congestion in the area.
The site is used to store containers, tools and machinery, plants, construction materials, vehicles, and welfare for operators. Included will be perimeter fencing, 24-hour CCTV surveillance and good lighting. The application states that these storage arrangements are suitable for smaller and local start-up businesses as it allows them to adapt to seasonal requirements, expansions or fluctuations in stock levels.
Ms Emma Bilton, speaking to the planning committee on behalf of applicant Mr Hawkins of Bronze Ltd, said it is a container-based storage area and represents the first step as part of the development of a wider site. This site will not lead to additional employment, but it has been recognized that this facility will assist local businesses responding to market demand.
Conservative councilor John Davison supported this and another similar application, also north of Gallagher Retail Park, but expressed concerns about traffic issues. Cllr Davison said the area already struggles with congestion during peak times and said this development could make it even worse. This is due to the amount of retail in the area including Tesco. Aldi, TK Maxx, and BQ close to the new development with McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, Nando’s and other retail including MS, Boots and B&M also nearby.
Cllr Davison said the traffic is “pretty easy fix, stop parking in front of Aldi” because parking is allowed directly in front of the store causes a tail back Labor councilor Max Bell said an informal conversation about the traffic should take place as calling it poor “is an understatement”.
