A man who racially abused staff at a gas station and then slashed the tires of a van has been sent to prison. Lewis Marsh, 27, went to the petrol station in Lynn Road in Wisbech on October 8, 2025, when it was temporarily closed for refuelling.
As soon as he entered, he began verbally abusing two men, including racial slurs. Marsh then left the shop, produced a knife and unsuccessfully attempted to puncture the tires on an HGV.
He then found a van at the scene and slashed the tires before crossing the road and watching as the victims noticed the damage. He then walked back to the spot and denied causing the damage.
Marsh, of no known address, was identified and arrested in Juke Street, Wisbech, three days later. When he was searched, officers found a folding knife.
Marsh admitted one count of criminal damage but denied racially aggravated criminal damage, using abusive words to cause harassment, alarm or distress and two counts of possessing a knife in public. He was found guilty at a trial at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (October 8) and jailed for six months.
PC Copeland said: “Marsh’s behavior was completely unacceptable and completely unprovoked. The victims were just going about their day when he decided to verbally abuse them and damage their property, seemingly completely at random. I am pleased that he has been identified, arrested and is now facing justice for his actions.
