IKEA Birmingham is actually in Wednesbury, with Brummies constantly hoping for a more central store for the second city.
In response to our inquiry, IKEA said: “In a rapidly changing business environment, we are focusing on making IKEA more affordable and practical by investing in our online offer, customer services, existing stores and expansion into new locations.
“While we continually review our strategy, Birmingham is not currently considered a potential location.”
So there you have it, Brummies wanting their next IKEA fix still need to travel to Wednesbury.
Regarding Harvey Nichols’ exit, a spokesperson for Mailbox said: “As Harvey Nichols prepares to leave Mailbox, we are looking at an exciting new chapter.
“Mailbox continues to develop as one of Birmingham’s leading mixed-use destinations, bringing together retail, leisure, hospitality and lifestyle.
“With several units currently on offer for 2027, the new Mailbox Business Center opening this October and ambitious placemaking initiatives underway, we are building strong momentum for the next phase of Mailbox.
“We are actively curating a complementary mix of occupiers that will enhance The Mailbox’s position as a vibrant business and lifestyle destination, and look forward to sharing more details about what’s to come.”
